H2M

modeling human genetic variants in the mouse genome

H2M (Human-to-Mouse) is a Python package and database for the precision modeling of human genetic variants in mice, and vice versa.

Mouse models are the workhorse of cancer genetics, but translating a human mutation into the right mouse mutation is not straightforward: the genomes differ, the codons differ, and a naive coordinate lift-over often produces a variant with a different functional consequence. H2M solves this systematically.

What it does

  • Ortholog querying between the human and mouse genomes, including paralog-to-paralog mapping.
  • Variant translation — generates murine equivalents of human variants that preserve sequence and functional consequences, and works in reverse.
  • Data ingestion from common public mutation sources (ClinVar, cBioPortal, VCF).
  • A database of over three million human–mouse mutation pairs, with base- and prime-editing libraries for thousands of variant pairs.
